Some sort of devops or system or problem refinery. Smooth out everything but make sure you have all your dysfunctions together in one spot that gets scrutiny.

We differentiated them by size.

“3 and a half inch floppy” was the name for that one. If you take the shell off, it’s a floppy disc.

The “5 and a quarter inch floppy” was in a softer outer shell but the interior disk was the same floppy material.

I keep making it do redis crimes to avoid having a real database.

I never realized the Cats character wasn’t Mr Mephistopheles.

So sad. I’m in rural New Hampshire and have 2gbps fiber. It’s so weirdly deployed.

The security meme was don’t roll your own auth. I think we are at the point where just don’t do it at all. It’s not gonna do what you think it’s doing and it’s gonna do what you don’t expect.

I saw this in 2016 when I didn’t have time for gaming so used my video card to make Ethereum. It was never actually worth it at the time to upgrade or get more GPUs but it was after 6 months.

The crypto grifter logic is holding true for AI. It’s obviously not a winner-take-all market. This is dumb

They’re not raising 2.3x their revenue. Annualized revenue is just a random month * 12 so these companies all pick the month they landed several deals and “annualize” that. The rest of the months are way less.

So if 1b / 12 is 83 million. That’s their best month ever? So maybe they’re at 300m ARR.

I assume that’s how Tom Clancy wrote so many books. He was just supposed to finish one but kept thinking of ideas and tossing them at ghost writers.

What they’ve done is actually unabashedly usher in authoritarian apologia and anti-trans “question-asking” that is unforgivable. Dark patterns are the tacky decor at the death camp.

The classic fallacy that code is somehow good or valuable.

It is all bad and terrible. It’s a data sewage pipe that could have been built better but wasn’t.

Neither. Off listening mode is an option when it’s on?

Just to be clear, it didn’t say anything bad to anyone who recorded it. It’s not like Wikipedia where everyone sees the same page. The whole point of LLMs is to be non-deterministic which means it could go mecha-hitler again on just some people viewing your entry sometimes.

I always expect the worst when people get so wealthy they can’t have any real friends or connection with people.

Any little impulse gets amplified by the sycophants and they become a monster.

Dumb and embarrassing things snowball and the sycophants gain power as their target gets more isolated.

We need a CSS fix where we can put “!important” beside it and it’ll override some stuff but not other stuff and nobody will be sure what is going on.

They totally predicted it but it only worked via religion at the time so they drew a hard barrier into the founding documents.

If they’d known that parasocial relationships to TV personalities were gonna blossom into a cult, they’d have included it for sure.

Clarifying pronoun trouble: I could contribute more but since there is a walmart in town, there are probably way more people using SNAP than I would imagine.

But if not for this dang income tax, so many more meals, on or off of wheels, would be available.

Hard agree. Even more interesting is that when switching back to IC, after having managed or directed, the perspective shift is incredible.

I’m a lot more grateful for my manager than before I had to be one. Just let me build!

The Engineer/Manager Pendulum
Lately I’ve been doing some career counseling for people off Twitter (long story). The central drama for many people goes something like this: “I’m a senior engineer, but I’m thin…

Having worked briefly in the space for a company with the worst UI I’d ever seen but was a better-than-most healthcare system…

It’s mainly the buyer-patient disconnect. They are servicing insurance first, then doctors and providers second, then accountiants third (actually they’re first), then us.
