"“It’s only the beginning as there’s still so much violent pornography that is completely legal in the online world and completely illegal in the offline world,” Baroness Bertin told BBC Radio 4. “The government has to use this as a first step to try to address that balance.”

"...even if it's consensual, it harms society"

hmm where have I heard that before.

Could you imagine being so "alpha" that you're salivating at the prospect government telling you what you can and can't watch?

I guess "Choke me daddy" is what conservatives say to politicians controlling access to the internet.

The Right: Calling us fascist is violence. Calling us Nazis is violence.

Also the Right: We should seize the presses just like Franco, Mussolini and that guy who ran the National Socialist movement in Germany whose name I’m forgetting.

Remember, there's no claim here that his kid (or anyone they know of) actually read this book.

But they don't want anyone to access it. They don't want anyone represented. And they will not stop with school libraries.

"Our proposal is to remove this book as well any other books exploring topics of sexual identity in children district wide."

Christian conservatives are attempting the real time erasure of an entire community, using social justice language to reframe existence as abuse.

It's happening online and off, on social media and in schools. We need to call it what it is, a pretext for violence and repression, and fight back.

And dumber than a box of rocks.

It used to be sort of fun to engage him on issues of obscenity and the First Amendment but he had so little knowledge of either that he'd ultimately just resort to calling me a pervert and blaming my "overbearing mother"

"Porn" is almost always the witch, though the rise of cultural fascination with this specific form of sexual dominance (from hands on neck to breath play to non-consensual choking) are much more complex.

The history of moral panics is a history of anecdotal evidence and the personal disgust censors being used to suppress depictions and discussions of sex and sexuality.

They succeed because people assume those connections must be true, even the data rarely show it is.

How it felt waking up this morning after a year of abject pundit horror stories.

On a side note, legislators implied that Elon Musk could be arrested if this type of material was able to circulate in the UK.

Happy to talk all day about the risks of breath play and/or non-consensual sexual behavior and misogynistic depictions of women, but given the readings on my moral panic reader I think we're about to get a real humdinger of a BDSM ban.
November 4, 2025 at 12:31 AM
They want to get around all this by criminalizing anyone who "allows" an obscene performance.

But how do can they know if it's obscene unless a) it happens and b) a jury determines it?

They can't. They've invented Schrödinger's pussy.

OK lawmakers want the AG to bless their interpretation that any municipal official should be able to determine what has First Amendment value prior to it happening and what doesn't, and ban it preemptively.

At least as I'm reading this.

They appear to be pulling any book that so much as mentions LGBTQ+ people, including books on Megan Rapinoe, Alan Turing and Jazz Jennings, and books on the fight for civil rights.

None of this is remotely "harmful to minors," but it might be harmful to fascists.

The bill would also ban any nudity, including in a locker room, if one's genitals would be an "affront" to others.

If passed, Ohio police would be permitted to arrest any performer who performers in clothes or make-up not associated with their "biological sex."

Proponents repeatedly mentioned Pride events, which would now be limited to strip clubs and private homes where minors were not present.

Ohio legislators are advancing HB 249, a bill that criminalizes drag performances unless they're in a strip club or adult theater.

Proponents say drag is obscene and should only be allowed "behind closed doors."

But it goes far beyond drag and closed doors.

"The natural sex appeal of girls serves as their primary source of bargaining power in the game of life ... a girl who indiscriminately gives away her basis for exchange has little left with which to bargain."

The Ohio AV bill failed to pass the legislature in '24, so this year they stapled it into to a 1000 page must-pass budget bill with almost no public comment or debate — the types of things that identify bad policy.

Now they're doubling down saying they don't need to fix it.

Fine.

If you don’t know Sinnamon, you probably know her work — or the results of it. In addition to forming BIPOC Collective to provide mutual aid and other services to sex workers, she’s been an unrelenting advocate for the rights of workers. An author. Filmmaker. Crusader.

And now she needs our support
