Yesss in our chat we made a similar point that the metrons could have lifted right out of the episode. SNW is plagued with convenient “memory wipes” and “this will be classified forever” plot reasons.

I’m on the other side of this, as I don’t think the Gorn changes to canon have been THAT radical (ok, outside of the Batel/Hybrid thing!)

Terrarium works best for Ortegas’ story arc and her own trauma.

But, yes, your overall point largely stands. This is just more of the “prequel problem” IMO.

Had “the twist” come earlier, we could have chewed the scenery dealing with the philosophical quandary of humans being forced to do what they to, to survive.

Craig and I talk about this a bit more too, in our review of “Sehlat.” The most interesting stuff isn’t explored - the end of the episode introducing some of the most compelling “science fiction” parts of Trek were largely ignored and handwaved in favor of action adventure

And to your previous point, a two-parter that expands on some of this might have been truly rewarding in that aspect! The stakes felt high enough (Ortegas doesn’t have plot armor)!

This could very well be the case and I don’t necessarily disagree - another thought I had rewatching the episode, Pike is allowing Uhura to chase this process to its natural conclusion, so she understands what it truly takes to rescue a friend/crewmember.

I’m somewhere in that bucket too. For me it’s how they approach canon - handwaving it as irrelevant and acting as though it doesn’t matter (long established lore with Vulcan philosophy for instance), versus “fudging the details” (Spock & TPring) for the sake of expanding the universe.

I must say, I love your color choice on this soap. Looks very familiar... ;-)
