This bad boy, the "Pillars of Creation," is about 8 light years in length, or twice the distance of the nearest solar system to Earth, Alpha Centauri. Oh yeah, it was destroyed by a supernova shockwave 6000 years ago. The destruction will be visible in 1000 years. It's 7000 light years away.
