Seattle lies between the Hanford Nuclear Reservation (most contaminated site in the Western Hemisphere) and the Bangor Trident Nuclear Sub Base (largest concentration of deployed nuclear weapons in the world).

WA State also runs a daily risk of a catastrophic missile handling accident at Bangor. In 2003 Bangor had a missile handling accident where a ladder punctured the nosecone of a missile, coming within a few inches of striking the third stage rocket motor and warheads. www.gzcenter.org/one-is-more-...

UW students are unable to contact people they were in touch with at NWDC once they were transferred to the Alaska facility.
