You're not alone. I adore Tolkien and the six movies, but that's the end of it for me UNLESS Peter Jackson gets the rights to make movies from the Silmarillion. Tolkien CANNOT be world-built by anyone other than Tolkien. It's not Star Wars. It can only be interpreted with great care and fidelity.
