As a firm we use Google Workspace, but are often having to collaborate with clients or other firms on SharePoint. Inevitably, it’s a terrible experience for all so this email blast caught my eye, lol.

Google Maps caught the edge striping (before the paint fill) at Mallory/Lexington in Jersey City. The job description of every tactical urbanist is essentially this: undo everything traffic engineers did for 80 years.

10th Avenue is going to be milled and repaved so the Meatpacking District deftly moved the Gansevoort Landing plaza kit over to the curb lane along Washington, at the foot of the High Line. #TacticalUrbanism

Small public spaces often deliver a big impact. 23 years ago I had an internship in a building that faced onto Portland’s Post Office Park. The boulders seen here mimic the scale/placement of the major islands in Casco Bay; kids (mine present but not seen here) love these type of playable spaces.

Great to finally see the first phase of Rochester’s Inner Loop freeway removal - one of the more transformative initiatives realized in any American city over the past decade.

The last time I was in Dublin was 2007! I’ve been told the pandemic served as an accelerant for pedestrian and cycling upgrades in the city center. Here are a few:
📍 Liffey Street Lower
📍 Ormand Quay
📍 Capel Street

Thousands efficiently access / depart Manchester City’s Ethihad Stadium ⚽️ via the Ashton Canal Towpath. Per square foot, this moves more people than any highway could. I’d love to see more American cities improve trail access to / from large event venues.

Just learning about Manchester, but it appears the city bought into the modal filter approach to liberate active transport.

The porticoes, dating to 1041 and codified in 1288, are a climate responsive revelation (Sun, Heat, Rain) from 700+ years ago.

I had a few hours to explore Bologna today. I’ve visited a lot of medieval city quarters but_none_compare to the monumentality of this city; I found it really difficult to photograph the squares, towers, and cathedrals because the scale to sight line ratio is overwhelming. 🤯
