@sue I don't think it works this way for everyone, but it's certainly a problem I have with using AI to generate code. "Tell the computer what you want." Well, I don't know what I want until I've sit down and tried to write it in Python or Java. I certainly can't describe it precisely enough.

@kenwhite.bsky.social Well, the right wing has hundreds, maybe thousands of years of experience using "cancel culture" as a tool. Book burnings, record burning (remember kids burning their Beatles records in the 60s?)--all this goes way back to middle ages and before. And as @adapalmer has […]

@quinn Yeah, saw this coming in 1980. Make an electorate that's poorly educated and susceptible to right wing ideas. It worked.

@evan Could be. I don't know what else would come close.

@evan That sounds amazing. I'll have to see it. Vineland is an under-appreciated but great book.

@jik I'm also a New Englander, but I'm definitely "If I don't want to freeze my butt in January, why should I be willing to freeze my but in October?" Thermostats stay (mostly) the same all year.

@JessTheUnstill And work with a lawyer. I just found out that my mom's life insurance policy is written in a way that forces it to go to probate. Everything else--no problem. And the insurance isn't that much. But they need it probated. (She had a good eldercare lawyer with very reasonable […]

@JessTheUnstill Agree about Sinclair. But also puzzled: who watches broadcast TV anymore? There's a weird connection between broadcast TV channels and getting on cable--though that can't be an issue for Disney, CBS, et al?

@brucelawson yeah. that's what I did. M$ will continue to nag you. But it's bearable.

@ahimsa_pdx Can Eastern states join?

@carrideen @jsadow Yeah, I think that's right: don't actually read the literature, except for carefully selected quotes. Sam. Johnson would be highly quotable in that context. Cowper, Gray, Thomson, etc. But power is still a subtext through all of it. I'm surprised those schools are offering lit […]
