anyhow I'm going to end the thread with these silly pics of Artie resting his hand on Percy's butt from February 26th, 2025

goodbye, sweet Percy.

Artie will see you again someday. we all will.
black foldout couch from IKEA is in bed mode. fluffy white Siberian cat Artie is loafing on the left, and orange tabby cat Percy is loafing on the right. both cats' heads are towards viewer right, but are looking somewhat head on at the viewer. Artie has his right front paw out, touching Percy's right buttcheek? thigh? haunch? lol. they're looking vaguely serious which makes this all the more funny. same shot as before but taken from a more aerial view angle. Artie's face is now looking a bit downwards in reference to the viewer but Percy has tilted his head up to look at the viewer. same 'aerial-ish' shot as before, but both cats are now facing in the direction away from the viewer. Artie's paw is still on Percy's backside, and this picture is more comical since it looks even more like he's trying to grab Percy's butt. same shot as before but it's a more regular head-on shot like the first photo in this post. both cats are looking vaguely to the right of the viewer, as if looking beyond the viewer into the window behind them. their eyes are wide but no longer serious. they have calm, "brainless" expressions.

these were the last pictures of them together in which Percy was healthy.

they loved the blanket texture so much they acted like the naked couch was lava lol

also the sequence is so funny. they woke up a bit as I was taking the pics, then went back to sleep
black floral blanket covering the couch is scrunched up in the center, leaving a 'naked' spot. both cats are staunchly curled up on the the sections covered by the blanket and avoiding the uncovered section (despite having no prior aversion to the couch when it was uncovered...). orange tabby Percy is on the left and looks awake but groggy. fluffy white cat Artie is still conked out, head tilted away from the viewer that he looks headless. same as previous shot with the exception that Artie has raised his head a bit in groggy mild annoyance same as previous shot, except that Percy has closed his eyes and is settling back in to nap again. Artie has tucked his head back onto his paws and is also sleeping once more.

it's really funny how even though my photos became more sparse, it was still a lot easier to capture pictures of Percy hanging out with Artie than it was to get any of Percy alone.

I really love the photos where it's primarily focused on one cat but the other one is lurking nearby

I was never able to capture the best shot of any of their silly interactions, but got some pretty good images that I'll cherish forever

Percy looks like he just wants his morning coffee orange tabby Percy with his front paws on the dining table. he is about to make a play for my dinner. to his right, fluffy white cat Artie is loafing on the dining table already, watching intently to see if Percy is successful and if my dinner is tasty. if it is, he will join in and try to steal some morsels as well. but he has outsourced such hunter-gatherer duties to Percy since he is a spoiled nobleman. why work harder when you can work smarter?

like with the Percy solo thread, my photos grew more sparse from October onwards since I had a lot more fun interacting with these little bozos than documenting them (something I mildly regret now but the memories were more than worth it)
a really silly photo that's a trip to describe. fluffy white cat Artie is on the dining table, lying down facing forward towards the viewer. his chin is resting on the tip of the handle of the dreaded cat hairbrush used to detangle his fur. his expression is unreadable. Artie we know you like weird hard uncomfortable surfaces but what the heck is this??? to the right, orange tabby Percy (perched on the couch) is looking inquisitively at Artie, as if to say "you good, bro?" this is a rare time where Percy is amusingly judging Artie for his antics. oh, how the turn tables... orange tabby Percy sitting in a very tight tucked in loaf, with no paws visible and tail almost disappearing behind him. to his right and slightly behind him is fluffy white cat Artie, who has big excited eyes and every intention to pouncing on Percy. Artie loves hunting Percy and his stalking isn't too shabby but his attack timing... isn't the greatest. orange tabby Percy perched on a cat tree in a way that makes him look extra long. his back paws are on the left rim of the lower cat tree bed and his front paws are on the left rim of the upper cat tree bed. this makes his body create a diagonal line from upper right (head) to lower left (tail). he's glancing back (to viewer left) surreptitiously at something unknown. behind him, fluffy white cat Artie's back to us and he is an amorphous blob perched on the windowsill gazing into the outside void. on the left, orange tabby Percy curled up on some cushion on a low side table, against the wall. on the right, fluffy white cat Artemis is loafing on the desk in the space behind one of my computer monitors.

it soon became a regular fixture of the day to see them conked near each other in the evening near bedtime or in the mornings when I got up for work

Artie is mostly a silent cat but Percy was very vocal and had a different meow for every situation! he talked a lot for both him and Artie
orange tabby Percy and fluffy white cat Artie loafing within 2 feet of each other on the carpet while a human (mostly offscreen) reached out and gently pets one cat with each hand. extremely rare beautiful moment since Artie is averse to too much physical contact most of the time. fluffy white cat Artie sprawled out asleep on the dining table. to the right, further from the viewer, orange tabby Percy is similarly sprawled out and sleeping on the grey couch orange tabby Percy and fluffy white cat Artie perched on a chair in the middle of the kitchen. Artie is on the right of Percy and in front of him. both are staring at the viewer with big, serious eyes. are they going to hunt the viewer for dinner? who knows... orange tabby Percy lounging in a sprawled fashion on the couch with his head up but limbs splayed out. to his right, fluffy white cat Artie is sleeping on his side in 'longcat lounging mode' (his body forms a long straight line, with belly exposed and limbs pointing forward in a relaxed manner)

I have to admit, these pictures were entirely posed (never trust social media!)

Artie loves lying down on my keyboard('s hard acrylic cover), so Clover picked up Percy and plopped him there.

they were good sports about it, and Percy stayed for about 10 seconds for the photos

of course they sort of fought over it a bit in the beginning, but Artie's an understanding big brother and learned to share

(this was an honor he definitely did not grant to my friend's cat, so we knew it was love)

2024.08 (2nd half)

we got Percy fixed, named him, made him officially ours

Artie was always a bit aloof with humans, but he loved being by Percy's side. he used to be lukewarm on the kitchen window cat tree but started using it a lot more after Percy moved in, to hang out with him.

we invited Percy in, he made himself right at home, and Artie welcomed him with open paws.

of course Artie had to establish seniority (lol) but they were so relaxed and content with each other, as if they'd known each other for years

eventually they befriended each other when Clover took Artie out on summer evening walks. Artie loves walks but it was too hot when the sun was still out.

at this point Percy liked Artie already, but the jury was still out on us lol

They were curious about each other from the start, and once we took Percy in, they became inseparable brothers.

there was a moment in the morning on Monday, March 10th, where I caught Percy looking forlorn on the staircase

this was the only time I've seen him rest here for more than a few minutes, aside from when he first moved in

I petted him and asked "you okay buddy?" but didn't think much of it then

here are some pictures from March 9th~13th, the week before I left for my trip

the last two photos are the final ones I have of Percy healthy and thriving.
Percy the orange tabby cat perched serenely on the dining table even though he isn't supposed to sit there. photo is zoomed-in and taken from the bedroom with the door open. Percy the orange tabby in a scrunched up loaf sitting on the fuzzy black floral blanket (that is now the couch cover). part of the blanket has rolled up, exposing the couch. Percy curls up on the blanket covered part, avoiding the naked couch like it is lava. Clover is holding up an open bag of preserved quail eggs from Costco and Percy has dived headfirst into said bag without abandon. Percy's head is no longer visible (as it is inside the bag) and Clover is gently tugging on Percy to try to pull him out. same as previous photo but more zoomed in. however this photo shows that Clover may have been able to gently tug Percy out of the quail egg bag a little, since one of his ears is visible.

new year, new beginnings, or so we thought

I really wish I had taken a lot more photos but I was busy living in the moment
Percy the orange tabby cat loafing in a very tucked in position (his paws are nowhere to be seen, and his tail is firmly against his body). this is his signature passive-aggressive loaf, when he gets jailed in our bedroom for stealing food or sink diving. Percy the orange tabby cat taking a nap on top of a sliver of Clover's electric blanket. he would sometime do this in January due to the evenings being cold. Percy the orange tabby cat relaxing in his favorite fuzzy green leaf-print blanket. he's sitting with all his paws pointed together in a little cluster. the same blanket from the previous photo is now folded up on the bed. Percy the orange tabby cat curls up on top of the folded up blanket.

the rest of the year goes by in a whirlwind, mundane daily routines punctuated by Percy's chatter

from this point on I don't think I took many solo pictures of Percy because I was busy laughing at his antics or showering him with physical affection (sometimes as punishment). I was so thankful every day we had him, and he showed us how much he loved us, too.
Percy the orange tabby held like a baby, gently but firmly, by the arms of my roommate, after he'd been caught trying to steal her food or sink dive for leftovers. his face only shows the defeat and surprise of getting caught, but no remorse. he would do it again (and he did). Percy the orange tabby sitting upright on the kitchen floor, slightly hunched over. he is wearing a mint green bowtie. he looks a bit disgruntled, probably after being denied a sink diving session. Percy the orange tabby sitting on a grayish white comforter blanket. his front paws are resting on the photo taker's leg (that's under the blanket). he's looking gently at the viewer. nearly the exact same photo as the previous one of Percy the orange tabby. however, this time he is blinking softly at the viewer.

adjusting to life with an extremely food-motivated boy who would try to dumpster and sink dive (despite being fed very well! with lots of treats!) was a challenge...

...but well worth it. Percy was so lively and made every day a little better with his vivid, affectionate personality
Percy the orange tabby climbing on Clover the human after Clover has eaten butter cookies. he is sniffing their mouth like a bloodhound in hopes of snatching some scraps when Clover's guard is down close up 3/4 (or 2/3 ?) view of Percy's face in the morning, with his nose blocking view of his left eye. he has climbed on the viewer's lap for affection and to also beg for treats. his right eye is a soft golden yellow, and softly alert. Percy the orange tabby curled up gently on his favorite napping spot, which is a green barstool (with a cartoon character blanket on it as padding). Percy would spend many afternoons and evenings napping here. Percy the orange tabby lounging on the couch next to the photo taker's left leg. His left front paw is stretched out contentedly and dangles off the couch edge a bit. His right back paw is pressed gently into the human leg.

2024.08 (2nd half)

we got him fixed and chipped, he had his tests + shots done, he came back with a clean bill of health and was officially ours!

at this point we hadn't officially named him; the old vet records simply have him as "Orange" lol

after hearing him in occasional turf wars w/ other cats and meowing at Artie's window, and seeing him cautiously cross our path every now and then, we left some food out for him and befriended him slowly
