Or he could introduce a radical budget, sack some poisonous, high profile advisers (pour encourager les autres), promote some basic socialism and ‘lead’ a proper government with some backbone against the massed ranks of the reformed right-wing establishment. It’s not too late

I hope you are correct. It will be interesting to be see what local/regional attitude there is to the MoD’s thoughts about locating explosives and ammunition factories in post-industrial areas.

Hugely impressive paper. My deepest concern is still a planning system which allows opponents - often but not exclusively NIMBYs - to frustrate necessary developments long enough to weaken politicians’ resolve, or impose costs and conditions which thwart the initial aims.

Three things: first, don’t announce the exact date of the budget three months in advance; second, don’t spend three months flying kites; third, everyone keep schtum - the world changes rapidly in three months, and you need the space to change your mind.

I know it’s not a scientifically rigorous cross-section, but ALL the locations I monitor via my weather app consistently show above-average temperatures well above 2.6. Today Manchester +5, Barcelona +3, Madison (Wisconsin) +6, NYC -1 etc, Singapore +2

I thought I saw you in Ceret, at the Saturday market. If it wasn’t you, your doppelgänger looks remarkably well!!! Could be the local wine and cheese etc.

Probably because when we all sit and think about it, we have friends, family and colleagues who’d be affected. We are an increasingly blended country, and every passing year sees it more so.

Perhaps she should set an example, and voluntarily ‘go home’ to her grand-parents’ countries of origin, The Netherlands or Germany. This selfless gesture would inspire millions to follow her, proving that this ‘rising star’ is true to her principles and not just mouthing fashionable fascism.

“This Jenrick fellow is a bit ‘swarthy’ if you ask me, and his wife is called Michal. And older than him. Some people say she’s a chap..” There, two hares set running … easy.. should do this for a living. What? People already do this for a living!?!?!

Here’s one for you, from the Musee de Beaux Arts, Tours (France), a cedar planted over 200 years ago and 8m in girth!

She’s not unique: the Conservative Party is like Dr Who and regenerates periodically. First they were the Tories, then the Conservatives, then the Conservative & Unionist Party, back to the Conservatives, and soon Reform…

"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational." -Charlie Kirk

My favourite bit in The Last English King - I think - is the troubadour in Turkey singing a song that goes ‘The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind…’ well, it made me laugh!

And here’s the thing: it is really great story, and needs no embellishment! The highlights as depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry, and the details in the AS Chronicles etc, are a gift to a scriptwriter and their historical consultant.

Why do they always come ashore on a beach, not on a quay? Why is Dover in the Lake District? Why is London a wooden village, in a hilly area? Why is Edward the Confessor an imbecile? And why have they taken a great story and decided it needed ‘improving’? The Bayeux Tapestry is much better!

I bet it came over on a boat, illegally, for a better life here, as part of the great native rat replacement theory

Dog-walking fascists… don’t build on that wasteland, I walk my dog there and he won’t meet his friends. Don’t build a school there , the traffic will be a danger to my dog. Ban Guy Fawkes celebrations, my dog doesn’t like the noise… “He doesn’t bite… you must have scared him”

Seems France is in a similar situation… the voters and their political parties’ leaders oppose anything suggested by government to deal with national debt, and €60+ billions spent on interest payments. Talk of abolishing two bank holidays (out of 13 - we have 8) is opposed by left and right.
