This was amazing. There was something incredibly inspiring about seeing these massive beautiful creatures wrestled out of the water and then scienced on the boat and then returned to their home as if they just had a brief time-out. Max and I are so grateful.

Wrote about this recently in the NYT. My favorite tidbit was the Farm Bureau's #1 policy priority: Marriage should be between a man and a woman. It's a Republican lobby group!

When your opponent is drowning, it’s important to throw yourself an anvil.

Good for Trump, good for Republicans, good for political reporters who get Hawaii trips to write Majority Leader Brian Schatz profiles, otherwise bad.

These premium increases are UNACCEPTABLE!!! Also we accept them. 🤷🏼

At least we showed that we wouldn’t back down until we killed those awful Obamacare increases! Oh wait we didn’t? Ah well never mind.

You see, it’s important to pass a continuing resolution so that Trump can spend the money he wants to spend and impound the money he feels like impounding. Also it’s important to depress everyone who voted for Democrats, wouldn’t want them to do that again.

Hooray, we won an election, and everyone blames Trump for the shutdown. Let’s show them that we could’ve reopened the government at any time, and also that we held out for 40 days for no reason whatsoever.

"I choose to do a physically strenuous outdoor activity that I find thrilling and satisfyiing as well as hard" is very different from "I choose to spend hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars to reach the moon because it's hard."
November 7, 2025 at 10:11 PM
"Because it's there" is a legitimate reason. "Because it's cool" is a legitimate reason. "Because it's hard" is silly.
November 7, 2025 at 9:26 PM
That's a defensible reason! "Because it's hard" is just dumb.
November 7, 2025 at 9:24 PM
He could've just said: "We choose to go to the moon because it's there." Or: "We choose to go to the moon because it's cool." Those are totally reasonable human motivations.

You were brilliant as always!
November 7, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Honestly, “we choose to go to the moon because it’s there” is perfectly defensible.

Founders put nonsense like this in their pitch decks and dumb VCs fund them.

Hey we all blunder into doing hard things, and some of us reluctantly do hard things on purpose, but none of us do them because they’re hard.
