I’d defend your principle, but I’m less convinced on the detail - particularly regulatory protection, which exists more on paper than in reality in some areas. And given that better regulation can give more affordable protection than public spending (eg rent control) - this matters.

I think technically you can still be apprehended by a church warden for causing a disturbance in a churchyard and an Ecc. Court can imprison you for up to two months. I’m sure they’d actually just call the police, but this is somewhat wider than a sharia court deciding wills and trade disputes.
