But instead, there’s pretty much radio silence, and the one big game (Asura’s Wrath 2) isn’t out until December.

It really seems that Meta doesn’t fully understand the well established link between compelling new software and hardware sales. It has quite a few first party studios now… this should have been the moment for them to deliver.

I still may buy one depending on reviews, but the Quest 3 is limping into market. The fact that you can still pre-order both launch models from anywhere indicates that demand isn’t exactly high… and this must be laid at Meta’s door. Still, it’s early days and hopefully it can get things organised.

It’s hard not to see Quest 3 as Meta’s last chance to do things its way, before shareholders rebel and cut the massively loss-making VR division. So why the ducks aren’t all in a row to ensure the 3 has the best chance of success, is maddening and weird. Maybe the minds aren’t so great over there.

And something also has to be said about the price. Yes, it’s a much better headset, but so was the Quest 2 over the Quest 1, and the 2’s aggressive launch price helped establish it. Meanwhile the Quest Pro flopped hard, partly due to an insane price point. Quest 3’s price seems high for Meta’s aims.
