Today's #AuctionHouseArtefact is this 19th century Scottish pottery jug decorated with fishwives and the words "Caller Herrin" and "Caller Ou". We can tell by the distinctive clothing that these are Newhaven Fishwives; elaborately voluminous and gathered striped skirts, capes and lace-lined bonnets.

Once again, I ask a simple question: what is the point of all these streaming services if none of them will make a top-class 120 hour adaptation of the Aubrey-Maturin novels?
It is somewhat galling that the Russell Crowe movie they decide to make a sequel of is the dull Gladiator, with its terrible CGI and implausible plot, and not the superb Master and Commander.
