Although it was inspiring to see the Chinook salmon, both rivers are in poor health. There used to be ~100k salmon returning each year and now there are only several k. Dammed up and adulterated river flows create steep banks instead of flood plains with slower moving water. Cool learnings tho!

I went on two "Paddle with the [Chinook] Salmon" by the Tuolumne River Trust in Nov. On the Tuolumne River near La Grange, we saw a few salmon in the riffles. But many more on the Stanislaus River, esp. where USFWS projects added sediments (sand thru rocks) to create spawning habitat.
