I’ve been to Sinatra and the Pena Palace twice, but I didn’t know about the Initiation Well until afterwards. We’re spending February in Lisbon, so it’s on my list to visit this time

I remember using ftp, telnet, gopher etc. Also having to buy a web browser, Netscape, and it was delivered as two 3.5” disks sellotaped to a piece of cardboard

You’ll know that the web came some time after the internet started though. Some people think that a Brit invented the internet, including big companies such as BA and BT in their advertising at one time.

I think I could get out onto the internet using services like Compuserve and Cix in the late 80’s before the UK had its first ISP, Demon. Wasn’t a very friendly place to get around, but I remember I could telnet into Steve Ballard’s computers at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

The origins of the internet date back to the 1960/70s. Not sure about some of that gear though.

I went to Cardiff once. The absolute best thing about it at the time was the Dr Who exhibition there.
