@lukeoneil47.bsky.social not sure if this film was mentioned in the original thread or not but you should definitely track down Spoorloos, which was a major influence on the original Danish Speak no Evil.
Quite possibly the bleakest film in existence and it earns its stripes.

I'd love to read a piece by you on Bonello's films. Nocturama started me down both a rabbit hole into his work which was great timing given it meant I could see The Beast in the cinema and also lead me to Alan Clarke, whose Elephant Bonello cited as an influence on elements of Nocturama.
