Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things.
Well, it’s not all I’m saying. That would be incorrect. But that’s one of many angles on this I believe strongly in.

All I’m saying is, cede a little ground on this part of the issue and we might be able to actually get something done to keep your classroom safer. Bans don’t address the problem. It wouldn’t for another half century or more for the millions of guns in circulation already to be out of commission.

Worrying about my kids in a classroom of course is always on my mind. But I’m also worried about defending them from lawlessness in the event our Democracy falls. “Someone breaking into my home” is no longer the most extreme scenario most of us can envision.

Our institutions have weakened. Any gun ban policy doesn’t change the fact that there are more guns than people. That cat is out of the bag. Right now gun ownership is concentrated on one side of the political spectrum and we need to be aware of how dangerous that is right now.

We need to provide subsidies/tax credits for gun storage. We need to look at measures that restrict access to those who are a danger to society, but balance them with the reality that it’s our constitutional right to own one.

I’m not going to fall for your Michael Dukakis trap. People are doing all this shit because they are in distress and the American dream is gone. We need to invest money in health care and housing to make life more affordable for people.

The real issue I’m getting at is authenticity: sticking to poll-tested scripts, avoiding long-form engagement, and overthinking what basic category someone belongs to as opposed to their ideas, how well they can communicate them, and how well they’d actually do the job makes us look fake.

I don’t think she’s wrong or that you’re wrong for a certain segment of voters, but that segment isn’t decisive. Swapping in two milquetoast straight white guys wouldn’t have changed the outcome.

Maybe it’s the rose colored glasses I’m looking through now. But I think if you give McCain that four year term from 08-12, they own the messy recovery from the financial crisis and we don’t lose so many blue collar voters between 2008 and 2016. The inevitable populism wave might’ve been a blue one.

It’s your second point of the downside that is particularly terrifying to me. Watching the weak-minded be so enthralled with how “normal” he seemed in the VP debate made me sick.

Haha that’s true. But even as a Barack fan and the progress he made, I sometimes wonder looking at where we are today if we’d be better off now had McCain won.
