Birding doesn't get much more bizarre than five minutes in a cave with a river running through it while watching Oilbirds by red torchlight. When they are not in the dark of their cave, they fly at night to feed on fruit trees. Thanks to #AsaWrightNatureCentre Trinidad for a memorable stay.

Look who's going to be at our AGM to be held at @globalbirdfair.bsky.social on the 12th of July. @themarshtit.bsky.social will talk about conservation in Bolivia after the formal part of the meeting. All welcome. Have you got something better to do?

Hickling really delivered with butterflies this week. Thousands present, with 13 species on show. I think I have, in order, Essex Skipper, Painted Lady, Skipper sp. which I am open to suggestions on, Swallowtail, Comma, Large White and Meadow Brown.

Haven’t filled the bird feeders for about two months but as I am “working” at my laptop in the garden I thought I needed some distraction. Took exactly five minutes for them to find it.

Found a bit of Norwich today of which I knew nothing. Down the end of Duke St. Anyone know the history?

I guess the world and its dog now has pictures the same as this. Slavonian Grebes showing point blank today at Abberton Reservoir, although this fails to capture how foggy it was. More or less my first visit since the days of Wimbledon YOC group trips but I might go back if the sun ever shines.
