Self Imposed Twitter Exile, just here for history, games, music & animal rights. Progressive voter but sick of politics with a dislike of reposts, with a couple of exceptions, that can stay at the other place
Listening to this episode, I was struck by the thought that if the podcast was called The Philip the 2nd Standard, the Donut man would be a shoe in, he was competence personified.

It's an easy group. Only Darius ruled Persia. Alexander destroyed it, Seleucus rebuilt it, the others inherited it

He was an idiot, failed in all but a fast campaign in Sicily that he lost anyway, reduced in the end to fighting small Greek cityscapes, well past their prime. More pathetic than Motley Crue with a Vegas residential gig.

The cat was innocent, I'll happily defend the cat pro-bono

I think it's the only thing that animates Hume, otherwise, from her political career you'd think she was a corpse (which to be honest would be more effective)

Though these are Pyrrhus' episodes, part 1 makes Lysimachus sound better than ever, you'll have to review if he meets the Standard again (always thought he was up to scratch myself)

I set an automated payment up years ago to BGG, never felt the need to review, the badge just magically appears

The Cheeky Guide is both amusing & informative, well worth the read.

I knew that foreign Knights like Bollingbroke would fight with them but had no idea that this was effectively the Order providing gap year services for cashed up foreigners, fascinating

"hiring"? Eh, I don't think the Order would be for hire to modern day Australia...

Just hiring the Teutonic Order now, but yes, I know about St Thomas of Acon, the modernday Freemasons adopted him, if you go on pilgrimage to Canterbury, you get a special badge for your mantle.

An amazing King / Emperor, always at odds with the Papacy, even after taking Jerusalem, the Pope's response, "not good enough, now take a knee".

Great podcast BTW, have been bingeing & are at the end of The Hansa

This post took 3 days to make it to Australia

Light-hearted? How many PhD thesis did you just kill with that off-hand comment? For want of actual effort, had always considered the rexypods as a prime academic source

I applaud this, it's the sort of commitment to invisible sky fairies that you rarely see in today's clerical circles.

I thought he was quite sane actually. Arrogant, incompetent & highly strung, but everything he did was deliberate, just he always chose the wrong thing to do.

The Lysimachus megaship reminded me of the Dark Elf Black Arks from Warhammer btw.

My copy arrived today, not sure about the rest of the world but check off Western Sydney from distribution lists.

Back when we used our LJ accounts, the idea (to me anyway) wasn't to amass a bazillion followers as an influencer or repost other peoples entries. Short of returning to LJ, you'll have to move over here to get those old interactions back, you might be able to claim asylum from Republicans.

Looking forward to this episode, just shows what can be accomplished with a competent ruler & the nobility kept in the sin bin.

I find it interesting to get an email from the bottle shop asking how buying a bottle of bourbon has made me feel.

Feel? The point behind buying bourbon is so you don't feel anything, it's not some life affirming experience.

Was this 1 of 4 for The Westwall series?

You get thrown into the Fortress of Oblivion, all your bodily parts intact, conjugal visits permitted & finally your wife brings word, "it's time my love, Jamasp has sent the Sukhra to sleep, we leave tonight, the Huns await your command, Jamasp will ensure the army musters & surrenders. We win"
