Sounds like the same argument Edison had with Tesla. Centralized (easier to meter and monetize) vs decentralized (less easy to regulate and control). Larger is also more of a liability it times of crisis. Smaller might take more work and be less efficient, but more nimble. Just some thoughts.

Why put this solar out in the desert when you could put it in cities (parking lots, roof tops, over roads, etc)? Less copper for transmission lines. Probably other benefits I can't think of.
