Felix found himself pushing off into a giant sea that quickly engulfed his rubber dingy on all sides. There were 151 people onboard the small, inflatable boat. Their feet grew cold and wet as sea water leaked through the boat’s fragile base. Felix prayed, trying to contain his fear.
December 23, 2025 at 10:40 PM
The trip through six countries took Felix almost six months. With only five liters of water attached to his person, Felix crossed the Sahara desert in the back of a pickup truck heading toward the Libyan coastline.

At 18 years old, Felix fled Gambia when he was involved in a car accident that damaged public property. Knowing that the punishment for this crime in Gambia would lead to his imprisonment (in a system where prisoners are known to be severely mistreated), he fled almost immediately, alone.

🇬🇲Meet Saikou from Gambia. He is a new member of the Migrants of the Mediterranean community. We met him through a field recording trip in the Spring, and we are truly inspired by his resilience.

“Migrants often feel invisible….telling and listening to a story…opens and holds a healing space.”

We are dedicated to doing more to help this incredible community of migrants in our fieldwork to come. You can help us do more when you donate to the Annual Holiday Fundraiser today, and thank you.

Each year we learn more about how profoundly our work connects with students and scholars in the university landscape, and Zieger’s latest publication proves it again––and with heart.
December 15, 2025 at 4:35 PM
It is our honor as a startup organization to be compared with such elite company, and by a scholar as prolific and compassionate as Zieger.
December 15, 2025 at 4:35 PM
In one breath, Professor Susan Zieger captures the importance of MotM’s Humanitarian Storytelling within the ecosystem of humanitarian actors, “Whereas the International Organization for Migration counts and tracks migrant flow quantitatively," she says, “MotM documents it qualitatively.”
December 15, 2025 at 4:35 PM
When you support MotM you help bring more of these impactful experiences to students across the country––moments that leave the indelible mark of humanity (the thing that really defines global migration!) on every one.

Donate now, and thank you!
