It's still looking very promising for tonight. The wind should become lighter from the west later in the night. #teammoth

The Met Office now agreeing with this scenario for Friday. Bring.it.on!
November 11, 2025 at 12:50 PM
2/2 The wind will then become light over the Isles of Scilly & Cornwall later in the night, and this is when/where I expect most migrant activity to take place. Having said that, a few arrivals could turn up anywhere in the south of Britain & Ireland, particularly where the wind dies down. #teammoth

1/2 Mild air from the Canary Isles & N Africa has already lifted temperatures over much of England, Wales & Ireland. Unfortunately, we first have to navigate a spell of very wet & windy weather this eve, particularly in the west, where conditions may be too windy to moth trap early evening #teammoth

2/2 The potential for this week is huge, as long as all the pieces of the jigsaw fall into place!
There is some uncertainty for the end of the week as a cold pool of air moves south, however southern-most counties of England could hold on to the mild air until Saturday. #teammoth

1/2 Southerly winds over North West Africa, as well as storms in Morocco on Thursday, will hugely increase the chances of large scale insect dispersal northwards into Europe. At this stage the key periods of interest are the early hours of Wednesday through to Friday. #teammoth

If Carlsberg did weather charts 😆

If storms over Western Sahara on Thursday reach S. England on Friday (as the current models are showing)... Put it this way, I've never seen anything like it in 20 years of trying to decipher these charts. I really hope the computer has got this one right #teammoth

Don't put the moth traps into hibernation just yet! The forecast model runs for next Tuesday onwards (especially Weds-Fri) are hinting at something MUCH better than we experienced this week. Early days, but something to keep a close eye on. #teammoth
November 7, 2025 at 1:26 PM
Antigastra catalaunalis (Toadflax Pearl), to light in North Hants (VC12) on 4/11. B. Dale #teammoth
November 5, 2025 at 12:15 PM
A change in the wind direction today, and a couple of milder and much calmer days/nights on the way for most of us.
Hopefully the migrants that arrived in the wind last night will be active again tonight, coupled with a fresh influx from the south east, via the Mediterranean Sea. #teammoth
November 5, 2025 at 11:22 AM
Saharan dust at 18:00 today. #teammoth
November 5, 2025 at 11:21 AM
2/2 Weds - the most likely period for the arrival of African insects. Look out for the likes of Crimson Speckled during the day. Thurs - cooler night however there should be plenty of migrants still on the wing. #teammoth
November 4, 2025 at 12:58 PM
1/2 Here we go then! Hot conditions in NW Africa today, combined with a SE'ly airstream over the Sahara should pull any dispersing insects out towards the Atlantic and then towards GB and Ireland. Tues - wet and windy, which will hamper moth trapping, especially on the coast... #teammoth
November 4, 2025 at 12:55 PM
Diasemiopsis ramburialis (Migrant Sable), found this evening whilst setting up the moth traps and probably missed the night before. Truro, Cornwall on 3/11. T. Wilson.
November 3, 2025 at 8:03 PM
We should see the 1st arrivals tonight, however it's likely to be too windy for moths to arrive at light.
Windier than 1st forecast tomorrow, however good for S. Ireland & hopefully S. Britain later in the night.
Weds looks by far the best (& driest!) night, with Saharan dust in the east. #teammoth

Sorry, three more charts! See Alt for details. #teammoth

2/2 The rest of the charts for Tues-Weds #teammoth
November 2, 2025 at 1:30 PM
1/2 The next 4-5 days/nights should be the most productive spell for North African migrants that we've seen so far this year (not difficult, I know!!!). Tuesday and Wednesday in particular look very interesting. [NB, any resemblance to male appendages in the charts is purely coincidental] #teammoth
