It amazes me that people still don’t get this. Match comms and pundits will say Frank solidified our defense because the narrative about Ange won’t die.

Frank didn’t improve anything. We got our CBs back and our defense is worse with them than it was last year. 🤯

We had a choice (but only Tel vs Solanke)
January 20, 2026 at 3:50 AM
He dropped him… and then whined about having not enough fit players with three who will have to really push to play 90.

He knows Solanke isn’t fit and he did it anyway (probably because he has no idea except limp it long and spam crosses, both of Solanke fits better at ST).
January 20, 2026 at 3:49 AM
He’s either gaslighting us or gaslighting himself.

And what makes it worse is that he pretends these are good performances while diminishing the trophy or the fact that we earned a champions league spot last year, and likes to suggest we were worse last year.
January 20, 2026 at 3:46 AM
And it will screw up the January window because they know it’s coming so they don’t want to invest because they aren’t sure what’s next. Should’vr been done in November when he started talking us down and diminishing the trophy. It was clear he didn’t get the club and there was no way it could work.

And that’s when we’re behind and chasing the game.

This team shows no energy, no belief, no fight. A reflection of its manager.
January 7, 2026 at 9:01 PM
Same for RKM, who I think thrives on making runs behind and receiving the ball at his feet (instead he’s being used an isolated winger with no one to pass to).
January 6, 2026 at 11:15 PM
Exactly. Frank has all but said explicitly that when we have the ball, he STILL worries more defensive positioning in case we lose the ball than being aggressive, putting pressure on the defense, and trying to score. It’s a no-risk midtable mentality.
January 6, 2026 at 11:14 PM
Excellent piece.

I’d add that Frank’s quotes the last few weeks epitomize the Brentford mentality - paying too much respect to our opponents, while talking us down as some team aspiring to be Brentford.

He doesn’t believe in Spurs and doesn’t have a big club mentality. It’s sad.
January 3, 2026 at 4:00 PM
Thanks. Defense still giving up 50% more goals with our CBs than last season.

Drives me crazy when people say we’re more sound defensively this year - that’s only because R&V are healthy, not because the system works better
January 3, 2026 at 3:48 PM
@profspur.bsky.social do you have updated stats on goals against and xGA when we had Romero/VDV last season vs when we have them this season?
January 2, 2026 at 8:05 PM
We need a manager who embiggens the team. (Love your user name)
January 2, 2026 at 3:16 PM
I take it back. A yellow for time wasting in a 0-0 against mighty Brentford is the epitome of Frankball.
January 1, 2026 at 9:44 PM
That’s the epitome of Frankball.

He probably will love it if we draw 0-0 against Brentford, even though a win could take us 7th or 8th.
January 1, 2026 at 9:43 PM
There was one play in the first had that epitomized Frankball. It was when Kudus beat like 4 defenders, but everyone else stood and watched, no one made a run, and there was nowhere for Kudus to play except backwards.
January 1, 2026 at 9:04 PM
And our one shot on target wasn’t even a shot on goal because it got blocked (unless I’m forgetting one)
January 1, 2026 at 9:02 PM
This is exactly it. What player in the world could succeed isolated like our wingers are?
December 28, 2025 at 11:58 PM
Plus, in this system, the wingers are out wide and isolated (sometimes they can pass to a full back who has nowhere to go). But there are no runners, no movement to help them create.
They’re expected to receive on the turn, beat 1-2 men down the flank, and then beat more guys to create something.
December 28, 2025 at 11:55 PM
People overrate Kinsky because his debut was so incredible. With extended time, we saw many mistakes and below average shot stopping. Talented player, but he’s a couple years away.
December 19, 2025 at 3:21 AM
People just love to focus on one guy as the scapegoat.

Last season, people acted like our leading scorer was the biggest problem on the team. Now it’s the guy who has prevented far more goals than his mistakes have allowed.
December 19, 2025 at 3:18 AM
Agree. Feels like the main thing Frank wants from his wingers is ability to receive with back to the goal and turn your man. He certainly doesn’t ask them run in behind or cut in to the box
December 19, 2025 at 3:16 AM
And that 1 shot on goal was not actually a shot - I believe it was Porto’s free kick cross that missed everyone and went to the keeper.
December 14, 2025 at 8:28 PM
The system is pass it out wide (mostly to Kudus) and hope he can beat 2 or 3 guys. It’s to never go through the middle. Our patterns of play are so predictable that defenders just sit on the passes and pick them off.
December 14, 2025 at 7:51 PM
When the system is predictable for defenses, pass completion goes down.
December 14, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Crazy thing is he was hyped for his tactical flexibility. But all that really seems to have meant is that sometimes he plays 2 CBs and sometimes 3, but the attack never changes and the team doesn’t impose its will unless it’s a weak opponent who tries to impose theirs even less than us.
