While our primary goals are theory-building and agenda-setting, we also explore the limited available quantitative evidence finding that parties along the new cleavage line vary widely in the nature of their ties to civil society groups, but that social embeddedness is overall higher on the left.

apropos of nothing: yesterday a friend and I saw this very cute old man being inexplicably followed by a humungous flock of pigeons. he noticed us laughing and started giggling to himself, then gestured to his bag and said (in italian) "there's nothing for them to eat in here." highlight of my day.

Had my first experience today talking about my research to a large interdisciplinary audience as part of the EUI's MW September Program. I was very nervous leading up to the presentation but it went super well and left me feeling excited (and relieved). Cheers to meeting new academic challenges. 🥂

Making my first post on a new social media post is an ominous task but perhaps the best way to start is by saying that I'm coming to the end of my first week as a Max Weber Fellow at the EUI and it's been a lovely (if overwhelming and transit-mayhem-filled) time. The campus is surreally beautiful.
