Writing books that will likely be banned in Florida
Pinned
Gonna add to a thread of books I feel are necessary reads every day until I run out of titles.

Note: if you want to buy them, try to get them in print if you can. With book bans on the rise it may become harder to access them in the near future

Day 1: On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder
Hey friends that write.
Just a friendly reminder not to delete your old outlines, throw out old journals, and keep otherwise shelved WIPs because chances are there might be something you can use in later projects

My reading plans for trans rights readathon this year:

Fire Becomes Her by Rosie Thor
The Second Rebel by Linden A Lewis
Emberclaw by LR Lam

I probably won’t get to all of them but I’m happy to support trans authors always

One starring an unreleased book with a review saying ‘DEI book’ assures me that a) you did not read the book, b) you have absolutely no idea what DEI even means, and c) I must buy this book when it’s out.

Am I older or do I just have a chronic illness now?

I know the answer is both. But I’m in better shape than I’ve been in years, and pain doesn’t get me down as much as it used to. But goddamn I’m still so fucking exhausted. All the time. The fatigue is worse than any of it

Everyone who gets to know Simon wants a Eurasier until they see what happens during undercoat blowing season. That’s not even all of it.

I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything. This is my soul dog.

He’s also been great deshed practice in school

One thing we CANNOT and WILL NOT do is fall into collective hopelessness.

That's EXACTLY what the powers that be want from us.

Be happy and be a pain in the ass out of spite. Keep the chaos going.

Please don’t let your cats outside. I promise they can live full enriching lives without going outside where it is so dangerous for them. They deserve better

What does audible think they’re gaining from discouraging people from listening at faster speeds? I have ADHD and audiobooks, especially sped up, allow me to enjoy more books and comprehend better what I’ve read. Everyone’s brains process things differently and that’s okay

PTSD is weighing heavily on me right now. It apparently takes up to 7 years to feel normal after a near death experience. I’m on year 3. The grief of my life before feels bottomless. Even as I’m rebuilding in a way that makes me happier than I was when my NDE happened.

My partner and I were discussing what we would do in a hypothetical societal collapse and talked about our skills together.

He’s a chef with butchering experience, can garden, work with wood…

I can knit, sew, groom pets, and I’m good at caring for animals.

We decided we’d be sheep farmers.

My dog-tor prescribed non-stop cuddles to get better from walking pneumonia. He thinks it’s working. Don’t tell him I’m on antibiotics.

Finished over a week ago but second read of December was Babel by RF Kuang

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely brilliant. I was hooked start to finish.

Setting a very low reading goal (for me) in 2025. It would only be 52 so a book a week. I’ll probably go over that but I want to focus more on writing this year.

I’m talking about Maas’s books online again, and it’s always funny to me that people think that fans of super popular work can discuss it indefinitely but critics have a limit on how much they can criticize it. Of course, that thinking creates vacuums where popular work gets to exist unchallenged.

So I am almost 50% through Babel by RF Kuang and I already think it’s going to be one of my favorite reads of the year. Maybe second behind Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse. Or tied for first. I’m obsessed

📚💙

First read of December: A Shadow Crown by Melissa Blair.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I LOVE the PTSD representation in this series. I feel seen. I relate to Keera and Riven is 🔥. World building is beautiful as well. It was a great balance of building off the first book and expanding the story.

How are y’all gonna say reading isn’t political when education and access to books are some of the first things they go after when fascism is on the rise?
