Geralf is hurt, I think, by encouraging a blue Storm thing, but players that are generally interested in High Tide-ing people like that, are not also trying to win by attacking with a bunch of zombies. It also has competition from other High Tide Commanders, such as Lier or Jace.

The other members of the cast do feature interwoven backgrounds and stories and contribute, but in some cases I think muddying the overall story more than helping or featuring in it.

It has 10 main characters and 3 optional ones, so 10-13 depending on how you want to define it. I think Terra, Celes, Locke, Edgar, and Sabin are all really important, but I think Terra and Celes have a status above everyone else as protagonist one and two, just for different parts of the game.

Developer intent was for FF6 to function this way, but I don't think is succeeds, personally.
