The MIDI Study is a research trial conducted across Scotland, focusing on the use of Motivational Interviewing to prevent diabetes-related foot ulceration.

We’re working with podiatrists and healthcare teams to co-design approaches that work in real-world NHS contexts.

We’re exploring how the use of Motivational Interviewing can:

✅Encourage supportive and engaging discussions around diabetes management
✅Empower individuals to take ownership of their self-care
✅ Help healthcare professionals build rapport and respond to ambivalence

📢 Who’s involved?

This study is being conducted by Glasgow Caledonian University, led by Dr Ruth Barn, with support from the Chief Scientist Office (CSO Scotland), bringing together experts in diabetes care and behaviour change.

Diabetes-related foot ulcers can lead to severe complications, including amputations. Using motivational interviewing, we aim to support individuals in making positive, sustainable health changes to protect their feet and overall well-being.
