I also don’t have context, but wonder if this is true if it would be doable to also come up with an additional metric that only measured same students’ progress from one year to the next to contextualize the existing metric.

You mean Best Elected Official Bruce Harrell? 😆

They’re not even pretending not to hate neurodivergent people.

I think some sort of licensure for food vendors (especially meat and eggs) makes sense, but with regulations only designed to promote safety, not to hinder vendors’ business.

Local officials should stop pretending that it’s a lack of education that is stopping vendors from getting all the permits and not their lack of support for vendors. I bet if Seattle just copied Portland’s model, we’d host more licensed vendors by 1-2 orders of magnitude.

This is a really good point. Restaurant health codes are enforced by the county through civil procedures — restaurants don’t have SPD busting in and checking water temperatures.

Here, mobile food units need to rent commissary space. In contrast, in Portland, only mobile food units (which needn’t even move) that cook raw animal meat and eggs need to rent commissary space. multco.us/file/plan_re...

I think the fees to obtain the permits are the tip of the iceberg, and the requirements to get the permits are likely the larger issue.

One $ hurdle seems to be renting use of a commissary kitchen (instead of operating out of a home kitchen). cdn.kingcounty.gov/-/media/king...

Just glancing at the health website and Reddits from people setting up trucks, I don’t think the need for education about requirements (which CM Rob Saka has been focusing on) is the primary issue, but rather the requirements themselves. And the lack of city support in infrastructure for this.

It is a King County requirement for all food establishments, according to the document I linked.

I know nothing about this, but just looking online, seems you need to have bathroom access for employees within 500 feet (and for customers if seating). I think that’s a couple blocks. Is that feasible for most late night food vendors? cdn.kingcounty.gov/-/media/king...

Flight AS 308 from SEA to Palm Springs on “indefinite delay” due to lack of air traffic controllers in Southern California.

If you press the button before the doors are closed, doesn’t that stop the doors from closing? I feel like I have observed this and it isn’t just ritual behavior on my part. But I could be wrong.

I hear you. I vaguely remember Sound Transit asking for input on whether there should be elevators or escalators, and I was 100% for escalators. Today one of the elevators was out, it was all that much worse.

This is about 14 commercial building floors. I guess if there are no other exits, it could be a lot. And hard for rescue folks to get there if something happened to someone midway. And maybe hard to know if someone needed help.
