Trump signed 2 EOs today. One on IFV coverage, and Fox News is hailing his moderate stance. They're not talking about the other EO claiming only the president and AG can interpret law, and describing it as "reestablish[ing] a long-standing norm”. Once you notice the slight-of-hand, it's everywhere.

Civilization is a house of cards made of complex systems built over an ocean of chaos and death that we've spent millennia clawing out of. From food production to supply chains to medical knowledge and care, to human rights, we must fight as hard to keep them as others worked to create them for us.

The role of government is to provide the services and enforce the rules that are not profitable to have, but are expensive (as a society) to not have. Running a government "like a business" is incongruent to its purpose, and anyone seeking profit at societal cost will oppose a functional government.

Whether it's a kid or a country, if you want to change a behavior, you can either use the "carrot" or the "stick." The "carrot" is usually best because it guides towards how to be instead of pushing in whatever direction away from how not to be.

A lot of people are worried that the US abdicating its leadership role in the world by withdrawing from WHO will make us and the world less healthy. There may even be an increase in anxiety disorders as a result, but we may never know given the freeze on CDC communications.
