I fully support decoupling from Russian energy sources, but your conclusions are misleading. If the AVERAGE price before the full-scale invasion was $16, in the last two years it is $32, and I am being very generous here. Russian gas was and is cheaper, but it comes with significant external costs.

I wish it were Trump. He is too demented and uneducated to have any serious opinion. In fact, it is a large part of his administration that operates this way and then whispers in Trump's ear what to think.

Fun fact: EU institutions better represent EU population than US president and US Congress represent US population. And that can be mathematically proven.

I am not surprised at all. There is ample evidence of "sniper safari" occurring during the siege of Sarajevo, and it is well known that Vučić was a hardline nationalist during the war. The only question is why this did not emerge sooner.

In principle, I do not understand why exceptions granted to other EU members (for example, Denmark for the euro) should be off the table to new members.

The problem are transborder shipping costs. EU should do something about that. AliExpress managed to do that itself, but only because it has huge economic leverage.

The elephant in the room is that they both sincerely believed to be forces of good. This is a sad lesson we have to learn before approaching many bad leaders.

How do you determine whether something is an SS tattoo? Is every en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totenkopf (essentially a skull) tattoo an SS tattoo? Does anyone have a picture of that tattoo?

Latvia and Slovenia appear to be outliers, but this may be due to of bilingual Russian and Croatian/Serbian speakers rather than bilingual English speakers.

As far as I have read, his tattoo is not a swastika or SS, but something similar to the Totenkopf, which predates the Nazis and is essentially a skull. A skull is a fairly universal symbol; even pirates used it. Platner is problematic in many ways, but his tattoo is the least of the concerns.

It is important to note that this plot apparently assumes single-user vehicles, thereby automatically excluding public transport, which would, of course, appear at the bottom of the plot. It is unfortunate that the orange point under and red point left of Automobile are not labelled.

In Germany, social and health security were introduced by staunch communist Otto Von Bismarck.

Additionally, the significant peak in USD value in 2022 was due to the widespread belief that Europe would freeze without Russian gas. It is quite satisfying that this assumption proved to be completely incorrect.

Looking at 10-year charts, USD to EUR remains comfortably within its usual range. And similar drops have occurred in the past without any shenanigans.

This is actually the reason that a real far-right party, Domovinski pokret, gained prominence, as the ruling party was no longer populist enough.
October 5, 2025 at 6:09 PM
Respectfully, I disagree. The ruling Croatian Democratic Party is indeed a big-tent party that includes both centre-right Christian Democrat and far-right populist elements, but after the death of Tuđman, it was predominantly—except under Karamarko—led by its centre-right wing.

Actually, Plenković was consistently pro-Ukrainian and pro-EU even far before he became prime minister.

If you had asked me 10 years ago, I would have predicted that Slovenia and Croatia were by far the most at risk of populism in the ex-communist sphere. In the end, they are doing the best, with the possible exception of the Baltics. I am very surprised.

I opposed Trump from the outset, not because of his political views, but because of his mockery of others and relentless lying. My first test for a politician is whether they meet basic ethical standards. If not, they cannot have my support, even if they fully align with my political views.

I hope there won't been any delays. But even in the current situation both Moldova Steel Works and Cuciurgan power station should no longer be competitive and producing loss rather than profit. All EU plants have cogeneration, without that you are at loss.

Furthermore, they represent 60% of TN GDP, the remaining is mostly Cuciurgan power station, and both are no longer subsidized by Russia. TN should be completely broke by now and people should be living out of humanitarian help. I don't get it where they get the money.
