My hot take is that the perceived risk scales with how much comfort you have, as counter-intuitive as that is. Having an FC and relationships to cling to, the risk/reward scale of yelling "DID SOMEONE SAY MAHJONG" just doesn't make any sense to my anxiety.

Getting Hotaru's medium was a long and anguished struggle with bouts of completely losing hope and not bidding for months.
Absurdly it was the time I completely forgot to place a bid and my micro-FC partner in crime was only able to place a single bid that we won. It's just raw dumb luck. 😭

But her business is disposing of antiques for questionable figures. She needs to sell off the ones that are innocent enough/not actively dangerous, she needs to fund it all... and that means catering to a clientele of snooty collectors. And she kinda hates it.

And so she needs to keep them silo'd, isolated, 'protected' from the discomfort of her poor and middle class clients downstairs. In her earlier years in Hingashi she did funerals for people that couldn't pay, she has so much distaste for looking down on the poor... Cont last one I promise>>

So there are chairs and a roughshod rug in front of the fire, there's tea and a kettle, that's all fine and dandy- But it's also shielded by the central book display so that her rich, snooty ass clientele going upstairs don't get a good stare at the locals coming by for a poultice. Continued>>
