Crime fiction WIP - The Batman meets Gomorrah.
Have you ever been doing something totally normal, like making pangritata at 2am, then stopped and thought, "Hang on - this might not be a thing normal people do"?

Today...

- I received my first royalties statement for Beer Drinker's Toolkit (my first book)
- My publisher sent Gin Drinker's Toolkit to the printer
- My wife received the author copies of her bew book

Such a fun confluence of booky things! I celebrated by buying a book.

Friend: "How's the book going?"

Me: "Just sent the proofs back, so that's more or less my part finished."

Friend: "Great! So when does it come out?"

Me: "September."

*cue friend being horrified at how long things take in the publishing industry*

A haiku

Midnight snack; nay, feast.
A meal of kings: potatoes
Twice cooked, eaten cold.

I open my laptop to start writing.

I have a message from a friend waiting for me: "In case you've never had the chance to enjoy the genre of Pirate Metal, here's a song about stealing everyone's beer."

Writing will have to wait.

"I write better in a cafe. Fewer distractions than at home."

Fast forward to me sitting in the cafe, singing along to Celine Dion's All Coming Back To Me Now.

Wednesday: Received my manuscript back from my editor, all marked up.

Thursday: Spent hours powering through all the edits and comments. Sent it back. Rewarded myself with a few gin & tonics.

Friday: Repeated self-rewards of bread and coffee.

Do the night wind & the little lamb speak to each other often? Or is this the first time?

Either way, I have follow-up questions.

Big ol' 5 right here. Lots of words, lots of thinking, but no pictures.

I've had people ask me how I can be a writer if I can't visualise things. But that's kind of like a dog wondering how a human can run with only two legs. We just do it differently, that's all.
BlueSky people. What’s your level of mind visualization according to this scale? I’m only a 3 or 4 😕

Fellow writers, when you finish a project, does your brain crash and need a few days or weeks to reboot?

Or is it just me?

Hunter and Hideout, by Jack Heath. (1/2)

- Books 2 and 3 in the Timothy Blake series.
- Blake has a powerful appetite for justice. He makes you cringe and cheer simultaneously. His life is not easy.
- These books are satisfying. But they are not happy.

Hangman, by Jack Heath. (1/3)

- Timothy Blake (protagonist) is extremely dark and twisted, but you love him
- you very much see the world through his eyes (he has a unique way of seeing other people)
- fantastic foreshadowing, leading to surprising yet inevitable events

The coffee - black.
The Christmas pudding - cold.
The COVID - mild.
The book editing - arduous.

My writing process is to overwrite and cull.

Which is all well and good until I have one week to cull 18000 words from my manuscript.

I'm sorry, my darlings. Time for you to die.

Scenario: it's midnight, you're writing a book about gin, and you think you're coming down with the flu. What do you drink?

A) Tea (better for you; you're 35 and 'responsible' now)
B) Gin (on brand; nobody lives forever)
C) Whisky (unleash the chaos)
