Maybe, maybe not. By now everyone should know not to take these reports and rumours too seriously. Reputable sites looked absolutely foolish for a stretch, couple years back.

Pretty much. I get Calibre to strip DRM and convert to mobi. Also backup everything from the Kindle using Calibre.

Kindle + Calibre for me, the last decade or so. Print is great, but you can't resize text for lousy eyesight, you can't back up a paperback and you can't carry 200 of 'em in your pocket.
