The better question is: who's going to stop them?

Great, Democrats! It's a small first step to make such a declaration, but better than the usual nothing (aside from requests for money) from my party. We need, and expect, and demand, a lot more from you.

Easy solution: bring Abrego Garcia back from El Salvador ASAP and schedule a prompt hearing so the admin can present admissible evidence to show he's deportable. Give him and his lawyer a chance to respond. Then the judge decides, subject to appeal. It's [gasp!] due process, not rocket science.

Courts operate on a geologic timescale, and by that standard two weeks is almost instantaneous. Still too long, as you say, and the court has few enforcement mechanisms available. Contempt can result in fines for certain officials who ignored the order, but criminal contempt requires a willing AG.

I quickly forgive anyone whose comment agreed with mine. ☺️

Too much wiggle room: "share what it can" and the "deference owed to the Executive Branch." It invites the administration to declare that it can't disclose anything about the case because it would "be inimical to national security." [Zuckerbraun v. General Dynamics Corp. (2d Cir. 1991).]

That one book apparently isn't "Mein Kampf" or even Machiavelli. It's probably "My New Order," the collection of Hitler's speeches that he kept by his bedside according to Ivana Trump. He denies ever reading "Mein Kampf," and that my be the only thing he's said that I've ever believed.

It failed, but election bribery is a felony under WI law and it should be vigorously prosecuted ASAP.

The plan, no doubt: start with the legs, then aim a bit higher and higher.

Custom, and that's not very reassuring these days.

"Not there yet"? Apparent Schumer doesn't keep up with the news.
March 19, 2025 at 6:20 AM
More like a social-studies teacher reprimanding a punk 8th grader for not doing his homework.
March 19, 2025 at 6:19 AM
Schumer must read the news, yet he hasn't noticed we're "there yet"?
March 19, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Sad news, but only if it should somehow delay Musk's eventual departure for Mars. 😊

If Democrats had led the Revolutionary War in 1776, we'd still be paying a tax on tea to Charles III.

Unfortunately this tool to attract the wealthy is all too common, as in Canada: anyone with a "personal net worth of CDN $10 million or more" may qualify, or those ready to invest in a joint venture with $2 million or more. Doors open easily for the wealthy . migrationconcerns.ca/immigrant-in....

Trump may think he has a monopoly on force (via the military) and coercion (via the DoJ), but there's growing evidence of miscalculation. Nearly 40% of the Army is Black or Hispanic, and this is a group that was already insulted by references to DEI by Trump and Hegseth.

A single word from Trump or Musk is enough to bring any wayward GOP politicos back into the fold: "primaryed!"
February 16, 2025 at 6:13 AM
Excellent and very detailed. That's settled, so what's Step 2 of the plan? I'm all in.
February 16, 2025 at 6:07 AM
Exactly! Yet Democrats and many progressives argued for a period of recovery and consolidation after the election. That's not what the MAGAs did after 11/20, and they almost staged a coup.
February 16, 2025 at 6:06 AM
No surrender, unfortunately. There's now, after just 16 days, just one branch of government: Trump Inc. The courts lack an enforcement mechanism that couldn't be safely ignored by Trump. Courts rely on norms and comity, and they no longer exist in U.S. politics.
