In addition to the BBC, Al Jazeera deserves a mention. Plus watching it will annoy all the right people 😉

Was a loyal regal unlimited subscriber. Great Movies were few and far between. Theater itself not looked after. Smaller movies disappeared quickly. But the deal breaker was my theater having a political campaign in foyer attached to a d’nesh desouza screening. Officially a streamer now.

I’ll close out with these thoughts and leave it there. In the UK, the CMA has tackled predatory pricing in some industries. Applying oversight to supermarkets selling below cost could help protect local businesses like pubs. It’s about balancing the market, not stifling it

BOGO is about attracting customers, not destroying competition by selling below cost long-term. Regulators can and do step in when predatory pricing is used to monopolize markets. it’s not impossible, just inconvenient for those gaming the system

sure, capitalism needs regulation to work properly, but isnt that the point? Selling at a loss to crush competition happens because of weak regulation. And Brexit? Yeah, great example of how stripping away ‘sensible’ rules just makes things worse 4 communities.

You’re describing practices that exploit loopholes or prioritize power over sustainability - calling it ‘business’ doesn’t make it right or beneficial to society. If anything, it proves my point: unchecked capitalism often harms communities and valuse short-term gain over long-term health.

You’re right, capitalism isn’t fair—but selling at a loss to crush small businesses is destructive. If that’s what capitalism demands, it’s worth questioning whether it’s working for communities at all.
January 2, 2025 at 12:36 AM
I’m not against capitalism, just questioning the fairness of selling at a loss to undermine smaller businesses. Supporting local pubs isn’t about rejecting commerce—it’s about valuing community spaces and heritage over short-term profit tactics. Surely capitalism can have room for that?

Another way to save pubs is to not allow supermarkets to sell beer at a loss.
