When I argued in October that #SinnFéin was using a black dress code when the FM employed obstructionist tactics in a #Stormont Committee it caused uproar. Well add to it last week’s windy disruption of the election of #Taoiseach (plus subsequent acceptance) and it could be coded: No, No, No, Yes.

#Trump is merely the apotheosis of a #BabyBoomer dynasty in the White House that began in 1992 and with just one four year break (Biden being the sole Presidential representative of his appropriately named #SilentGeneration) is now *due* to end in 2028. They look mighty pleased with themselves.

Musk didn’t screw up Twitter, it was already screwing us up long before he bought it….. @pauliewaulie.bsky.social explains:

“The aim is no longer to sell us stuff. Instead, we are the commodity that is sold, and the customer is god-knows-who…”

Great night at the 11th #SluggerReview of the year in #NorthernIreland politics in the Black Box in Belfast with Alex Kane and Allison Morris hosted by our own Alan Meban. Very insightful commentary, and plenty of laughter (in the appropriate places. Thanks Brian, David at the whole team!!

Wouldn’t deny the impressive Paul O’Donovan anything but it looks to me like #RTE denied Daniel Wiffen (or even Rhys McClenaghan if you prefer) this year’s #SPOTY for reasons that I can neither understand, or explain.

It’s where the riots were last year, and in 2005 (against an eccentric Orange March that wrecked the city centre). The same crowd voted for Hutch (look up the shooting at the start of the 2016 election) are part of McDonald’s base (see the transfers below). He has blown a hole in the racist vote.

Only in Dublin could a crime boss, whose gang’s alleged activities include a feud that has taken the lives of 18 people, stand a chance of winning a seat in the national parliament. He’s helped in part by taking the largest number of transfers from Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald.

The gap between government and opposition means the outcome of Ireland’s #GE24 #Election is already clear. The rest is for us anoraks.

Last @irishtimes.bsky.social Ipsos poll has FG on a 6pc drop although it’s basically now aligning with we’re all other polls have three big parties, ie, around the 20/20/20 mark. Technically they’re showing in last place but it’s all within the margin of error…

Agree completely with @drjennings.bsky.social. My new favourite emblem for a clean space like Bluesky where people can share their views without also outsourcing their values to a billionaire’s algorithm is in @pauliewaulie.bsky.social’s banner quote:

Prompted earlier to look up @shirky.bsky.social’s genius essay on inequality and power laws that plotted a very young @sluggerotoolepols.bsky.social earlier. Reminded me how exciting and emergent blogging felt back in those early days…

Rumours that Adams is angry the project he still controls is faltering and blaming his own protege for his own mistakes may have some substance after all. Good luck getting anyone better than McDonald Gerry. Is SF suffering from Alec Ferguson syndrome?

But, then there’s this…

#Ireland showing the power of having a pluralistic media beyond the control of one party or one lobby. As #SinnFein try to cancel one of the few courageous comedic voices this is is what they didn’t want us to hear…

#AlexSalmond twice interviewed me even as I had always wanted to interview him as a political genius who almost solved the puzzle of bringing Scottish nationalism from the fringes of crankery to the brink of reality.

He’ll be much missed by friends and opponents alike. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.
