Retired software engineer. Mostly did Windows device drivers. Did a lot of genealogy software back in the early days. Still writing code, just not getting paid for it.
Don't know about Brave and from a few comments in here, I won't.

I've been using Firefox forever. It has all sorts of anti-ad plugins that the browser from the ad capital of the universe won't allow

Keep Chrome around though. You'll find websites that don't work with Firefox.

USPS.com is one.

Same here. One day, I'm installing a #7 gizmo so I can say "Alexa, turn on the toothbrush" and the next I'm removing all the WiFi enabled wall switches and installing giant knife switches

As I'm not interested in providing housing for assorted bacteria types, I got rid of wooden cutting boards decades ago

It's all about money. If they did as you suggest, advertisers would disappear. Then what?

I don't think that's the way it's supposed to work.

You didn't read the AI generated instructions did you?

'Apply liberally, wait 5 minutes, lick clean'

I even have a Visual Studio C++ application mostly completed. It works but I need it to sniff out more details from the messages.

Microsoft's Bluetooth stack seriously sucks

My neighbor gave me a pink HP Stream w/Windows on it. It was a ridiculously underpowered piece of junk the day it was built and became completely non-functional when the latest update hit it.

I put Mint on it. Painless. Works OK for sitting on the porch and ordering groceries from Walmart.

Somebody created a knob to twiddle and somebody else said "Christ, you trying to destroy everything? Get rid of that."

So rather than delete perfectly good code, someone else said "Just make it do something different. I dunno, change a button color maybe."

My career started at the end of the Apollo program and ended 10 years ago so a lot of this stuff didn't even exist for me.

At DEC (early 80s), I designed some test equip using FORTRAN in a PDP11 w/T11 co-processor. It used at least 2 'languages' we wrote ourselves + our own O/S in the T11

I was going to mention ping what with it being the internet groper 'n all but turns out that 30 year old anecdote is wrong

Are you in the habit of eating cinnamon sticky rolls while perusing the news?

You forgot Dachau. I was in the Air Force with a guy that grew up in Dachau. He was ... different. Liked him a lot. Wonder where he is now
