I am aware of the upfront green costs. As I mentioned in my post, I'm thinking that adding 1 pan to a load of dishes will have a very small impact on the costs. As for non-stick pans, I don't use them. A little elbow grease and some scraping has been fie for me.

Good points. I wish I had more than 300 characters to respond with. "Cradle to grave" analysis does sometimes show that what seems an obvious green choice may not be (e.g. disposable diapers). If you're washing your pans with other dishes, the energy etc. costs seem negligible for most uses.
