This is an interesting angle but I think it is likely not true because it doesn’t account for Biff throwing the whole Harbaugh regime under the bus (“dysfunctional organization the last 5 years”)
If I may provide a conspiratorial counter factual. I think he went rogue but not necessarily to get himself the job, but instead push the people conducting the search to accelerate the timeline. He’d prefer it was for him, but it was also him raising the alarm that they were going to get plundered
