Fun! And agree. Pure PR wasn’t a huge issue in the past because pillarisation meant most voters voted for the large “people’s parties” (PvdA, CDA, VVD) anyway. But with traditional party loyalties dead and buried, it’s now a complete free-for-all. The electoral system needs modernising.

It's proportional representation based on party lists, without a threshold.

A not insignificant footnote in this election is that the openly pro-Kremlin party FVD doubled its number of seats in the Dutch parliament. According to @defenddemocracy.bsky.social, FVD was part of a Russian propaganda ecosystem during the campaign: defenddemocracy.eu/russian-prav...

It's a very Dutch thing to care more about 0.67% of voters being able to elect an MP whose views *exactly* match their own views vs. having a functioning government in office soon after the election that is able to get things done for the country quickly and effectively.

The second (and final) exit poll confirms the results of the first one. So not reposting. Now to the count, and we should have a pretty clear idea of the final outcome before midnight.

Absolutely! But VVD holding on against all odds, undeservedly

The four more or less mainstream parties have a majority in parliament based on this poll and could form a centrist coalition - but there's also the possibility of a majority on the right, one that excludes Wilders but extends from the centrists to a smaller far right party.

Disappointing result for the centre-left Green/Labour alliance. Wilders loses big, but his seats are picked up by other far right parties. The Christian Democrats are back from the (almost) dead. Conservative Liberal VVD does suprisingly well.
