I don't get it either. There is a lot of questionable information on the r/soil subreddit. Did you see the thread about how to study for the SSSA Fundamentals Exam?

USDA-NRCS probably has thin sections of soils from Minnesota and Nebraska (or where ever else you have an interest). There was a time period when the thin sections were being made for their soil characterization work, but they did not have a scientist to study them. Contact the Kellogg Laboratory.
