I love the season of frost. Cold air sags down the steep ravine freeze-framing fog on spent leaves and grass. Ice crystals glow and the creek just babbles on. I’ve walked this trail a million times and it’s never looked like this, says my spirit, tired of all things human.

Nina Elder is a wonderfully gifted artist and deep feeler-thinker. She wrote this in 2020 about Root Glacier in Kennecott - the first glacier I touched, that broke my heart open to the power and fragility of what we are losing. Nina’s essay is well worth the read 💖

I rolled into Kanab, Utah late on November 5th, slathered almond butter and raspberry jam on some bread for dinner then turned on the hotel TV to watch the election. “It’s the first time I’ve ever cried over politics” my friend Robin said in my ear over the phone. She’s almost 80.
