Oh interesting. I didn't know this about flu. This study was from 2006, do you have anything more recent I could read? Thanks for flagging.

Also helpful lesson: when taling to a loved one about mis/disinformation it can be helpful to talk about rumors and evidence rather than facts or truth. Helps lower hackles. Listen to feelings (I'm scared) rather than dismissing people as stupid for believing something that appeals to their feelings

The conviction is suspended as their lawyers start a constitutional challenge. thetyee.ca/News/2025/11...

Anyway. High emotions at the court house with many supporters crying or frustrated that the judge can so clearly acknowledge the harms caused by the CDSA, and then find people who push back against the CDSA guilty.
If the law exists to protect people but people are dying, should the law change?

Where some parts of the process can be illegal but others are illegal. It's kind of like sex work. Allowing the selling but prohibiting the buying just means people have to navigate a confusing network of permissions where it would ultimately be easier and safer if there were blanket exemptions.

But not the buying or distributing of drugs. When DULF's compassion club was raided in Oct 2023 the drugs that were seized were there to be distributed/ sold, which falls under the definition of trafficking and is outside of the exemption.
I guess it highlights the strange nature of exemptions...

The sad part is that the judge recognized DULF was saving lives and what they were doing was working. However, she had to decide if they were fully operating under an exemption for the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. In her ruling she said the exemption covered testing, storing and packaging...
