Oh yes, education access is a problem. Even then, I don't think we talk enough about access to *art* education as a means of teaching critical thinking. And on the flip side of that, I've talked to plenty of educated people who actively choose ignorance when it protects their comfort and power.

That's fair, and it makes sense these stats are worse than pre-covid. I would be interested to see literacy compared to, say, 100 years ago. But I'll admit, I'm deeply distrustful of any narrative that tells me the wealthy are broadly more intelligent than the poor

Ooh, thanks for the stats. My takeaway is that access to education is a class issue, so of course it all comes down to an economic disparity crisis. But also...I don't know if I trust how the government defines literacy, lol
