Also, the critique rings hollow. One person's echo chamber is another person's welcoming community. We've made existing on the internet a license to treat people like shit. It doesn't have to be like that. The internet wasn't always like that!

On one hand, authoritarians want people to check out. On the other, everyone needs some time to recharge for the battles ahead. Taking a break now is probably best, as long as there are people watching so that everything that happens won't be forgotten.

I've been coming around to this idea as well. I think we need to solve housing first, that is, make homes that families want to live in, near good transit, and affordable for even those below the median income.
