Wrote a book about G.K. Chesterton and literary modernism. Now working in uni admin, but still doing research - see pinned thread for info on my current project, 'Inscribing Pandemonium'. Also posting about music, culture, politics, random nonsense.
Same here, though 16-year-old me hadn't actually read it, deeming it too much like something a 16-year-old would probably enjoy.

Gemstones is possibly his best, I reckon, but this one has a special place in my heart. I got the anniversary reissues of Garfield and Friends of Mine. Really good liner notes and bonus tracks - similar approach to the Stereolab reissues.

I recently transferred all my Spotify playlists to Qobuz, because it pays artists more, has better sound quality, and doesn't run ads for fascist paramilitaries. So far so good: I transferred around 35k songs and I'd say c.95% are available in the Qobuz library. I used TuneMyMusic for the transfer.

By way of contrast, Bill McKibben develops such a charitable and sane critique of Paul Kingsnorth's dubious grifting in the latest issue that it made me look up McKibben's own work with interest. Reviewers - this is how you do it.

Yeah, I guess so, especially if spotify aren't making much effort to keep on top of it, which that thread (and everything we know about their attitude towards artist rights) suggests is the case.

In case you didn't happen upon it, this is a very good recent essay of appreciation.
That is what's going to become of me, Joan. That is what's going to become of us.

What's the point - to extract revenue from plays before it gets pulled down? Seems like that wouldn't exactly be a fast track to mega-dollars.
