Sometimes it is worth stepping back and reflecting on what is going on in the media at the moment - the political environment and the disruption.
Imagine telling anyone a decade ago this would come from the Pentagon in 2025.

The decline on active metrics is real (maybe flatlining more now?) - there's a question on whether Bluesky is reliant on external events to create huge moments of growth.
But the company itself is realising its power might be in real engagement compared to X.

My favourite episode:
There’s a good argument Sleepytime is the best self-contained 7mins of telly ever made.
Special mention for Escape.
But I’m a Rug Island man…

It’s entirely reliant of course on having incredible IP like Bluey - a show it doesn’t produce & only co-commissioned.
BBC Studios holds global distribution/merchandising rights- perhaps the best deal it ever did.
Someone at ABC in Australia must be kicking a bin or two...

The Bluey story is part of one you don’t hear much - the extra income the BBC has got since about 2018 is basically coming from its commercial wing.
Commercial income has doubled - slowly catching up with licence fee income as the latter falls…
A BBC success story…

First off - Bluey is a juggernaut.
The most watched show in the US across all genres in 2024, with 55.6bn viewing mins. Still top this year. It's also passed 1bn lifetime audio streams.
The BBC’s commercial wing revealed record revenues last week, driven by “licensing of the Bluey brand”.

What now for MasterChef?
Presenter John Torode says he is the person cited with an upheld allegation, made in the report into Gregg Wallace, of making a racist comment - but denies it ever happening.
Remember, a whole series is in the can waiting to be shown.

Rows about clickbait, redundancies & falling revenues have been the story plaguing Reach.
Meanwhile, they eke out £100m/year in profit, and it's been pretty stable. Profits protected by that cost cutting. But this surely time limited if revenue keeps falling.
Keen to hear from Reach journalists.
