That all was several hundred years ago. Today, these monster folk abound throughout the world alongside the older races. It is a modern and intermingled world, where magic and technology and these manifold races coexist in relative harmony, although old tensions and old monsters still remain...

It began the charge among the conquered people to free themselves from the wretched reign of the king. It was a hard fight -- the king and his magician were powerful, crafty, and devilish in more ways than one -- but in the end, the evil king was deposed, and his reign over the lands no more.

Together, they went into the tower's dungeon, and the demon re-transformed the creatures that were still there into the first monsterfolk. Among others, ones who had been turned into birds became the first harpies; snakes the first nagas; horses, centaurs; fish, merfolk; and a mouse the first giant.

Alone and destitute, the demon did something unusual; they began to pray. Pray with all their soul, for someone to free them from this torturous hell. Eventually, their prayers were answered; in the dead of a dark night, angels came to free the demon, in exchange for helping to make things right.

He kept the demon locked in a remote tower for decades upon decades, using their magic blood for only three things; to keep himself youthful, to conquer lands, and to torture any who angered his capricious will by having them into animals and locking them in his dungeons.

The reason for this is actually pretty dark. Long long ago, the was a land ruled by a wicked king. He and his most power magicians summoned, then tricked and entrapped, an arch-demon, the one with power over transfiguration.

It's basically a modern fantasy world, with an abundance of different races intermingled. Some -- like humans, elves, dwarves, fairies, goblins, and dragons -- have been around since forever. But other kinds, hybrid "monsterfolk," are newer. (Thread)
