Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance. Scottish Labour MSP for North East Scotland. Dundonian, Dad, DUFC.
While our front line services need all the help they can get, Labour investment is being held up by the SNP.

Where is the money, John?

Supermarket surgery today in Asda Kirkton with Cllr Kevin Keenan. As ever, if you have an issue you would like to discuss with me, please email my parliamentary address.

Thank you to Samantha for welcoming us and for all her community work.

I have written to STV's Chief Executive calling on him to reverse the decision to sack journalists and end STV’s north of Scotland news programme.

Good quality, regional journalism is a fundamental part of our democracy which must be protected.

Almost a week on from the Banchory Beast and I’m still sore. A brilliant run and obstacle race with loads of NE folk running for charity. Our XParty team was depleted by illness but the Lab-Lib members got through it. We finished 45th out of 2500 @willierennie.bsky.social dragged me round.

Interactive Entertainment Scotland the new trade body dedicated to our video game industry, which launched last night.

The economy we need: based on the talents of Scots and the talents of Dundonians.

Thank you to @4jstudios.com for hosting, and @ukieofficial.bsky.social for their hard work.

At the next Scottish elections, vote Labour to:

🩺 Fix NHS Tayside
🎓 Save the University of Dundee
🧹 Clean up our streets
🏙 Revitalise our city centre
💸 End SNP waste

£200m investment in carbon capture technologies across Scotland. That's the difference a Labour government makes.

Fantastic to meet with Rachel Reeves today in St Fergus, Peterhead, putting our clean energy future into practice.

Fantastic visit to the Discovery last week. Great to catch up with colleagues from Dundee Heritage Trust and see progress on the ship.

Today was my members’ business debate on wraparound care for children with additional support needs.

The highlight was welcoming Leo, and his mum Nicola, to Parliament. With summer approaching we have to make holidays real by letting families plan ahead.

In 18 years Dundee GP clinics down 25%. GP patient lists up by 37%.

If the SNP had a plan to end the 8am rush they would have done it by now.

Brilliant day in the sun in Hamilton and Larkhall, with an even warmer reception on the doors.

Davy Russell would make an excellent MSP, a local champion for his community.

The Holy Father’s passing brings such sadness for many but joy for him at Easter. A mortal man of peace, compassion and love for the poor. A humble servant to all.

Requiescat in pace il Papa.

The First Minister cannot be shocked by the scale of the University of Dundee job cuts. He has known what was coming for weeks.

What will his government actually now do to save jobs?

My parliamentary motion celebrating the life of the legendary Dick McTaggart, his astounding achievements and the remarkable legacy he will leave behind.

The question is whether the SNP can get the desperately needed money Labour has provided in the budget to the front lines of public services.

Judging by their record, I won't be holding my breath.

Pleased to address Scottish Labour Conference this afternoon and announce our plans for a Scottish Treasury.

A Scottish Labour Government will get a grip of the public finances and deliver value for every pound of taxpayers’ money.

That is the new direction we will take together.
February 22, 2025 at 6:10 PM
The Labour Government has committed £2.6m for the V&A Dundee - in addition to £20m of transformational funding for Dundee.

Since the V&A opened in 2018, tourist numbers have gone up 50%. Our investment will boost Dundee's economy, securing new growth and jobs.

Under the SNP train fares are up, and up, and up.

It is a company owned by the public, it should be accessible to be used by the public.
February 4, 2025 at 8:01 PM
It was great to meet with Relationship Scotland @relscot.bsky.social, and to celebrate the work they do in Dundee with a Parliamentary Motion.

Thank you to the team for the work they do in counselling and support services for our city.

Outside the Scottish Parliament today for @ucuscotland.bsky.social rally on the crisis in Scottish HE. Good to speak with colleagues from Univeristy of Dundee.

With the huge challenges the uni faces, it is vital that trade union voices are heard.
January 29, 2025 at 4:16 PM
Pleased to bring SSEN to Parliament to meet with MSPs and answer questions.

I have met with SSEN on many occasions to raise constituents’ concerns regarding new energy infrastructure.

It is vital for our clean energy future, and that we see economic benefits for local people.

A privilege to host the National Leadership Network in Parliament this week.

An inspiring organisation providing opportunities and outcomes for care experienced people - many of them young and talking passionately about their shared futures.
January 18, 2025 at 10:36 AM
This is the week the Glen Sannox finally entered service. Nearly 7 years delayed, the SNP ferry fiasco has cost millions and left island communities high and dry.

A Scottish Labour Government would bring all the details of this scandal into the light.
